The honest problem with "budget headset" roundups
Most budget headset lists are written by people who will never have to answer your email when the thing breaks. We run the store. So this guide works the other way: one pick we'd actually sell you, what it genuinely does, what it doesn't — and the name-brand alternative we'd point you to if your budget stretches ten dollars further.
Best overall under $60: Spawn G19BT — $59.99
The Spawn G19BT is a tri-mode headset, and the three modes are the whole story:
- 2.4G wireless (USB dongle) for PC and PlayStation — low-latency, the mode you game in.
- Bluetooth for your phone, tablet, and laptop.
- 3.5mm wired — and this is the part most listings mumble: wired is the only way this headset works on Xbox. Not our limitation — Xbox doesn't take generic wireless audio, period. Any headset in this class claiming wireless Xbox is selling you a story. Ours works on Xbox the honest way: cable into the controller.
The rest is verified, not vibes: 40mm drivers, a rotating mic, 169 grams (genuinely light — long sessions are where cheap headsets go to die), and it folds flat for a drawer or a bag. $59.99, shipped free anywhere in the US.
What we won't print: a battery-hours number. Brands inflate them (the big figures assume Bluetooth with the lights off). If battery bragging rights decide your purchase, read the next section.
Tighter budget: Spawn Foldable Wireless Headset — $49.99
Bluetooth 5.3, folds down small, and keeps a 3.5mm cable in the box as a backup for wired play. Ten dollars less than the G19BT, and the right call if wireless dongle gaming isn't your thing and you mostly play on one device.
Where the name brand wins — and we'd tell you at the counter
Ten dollars over the line sits the Logitech G325 at $69.99 at Best Buy (price checked October 21, 2026). Logitech publishes the bigger battery story, and if runtime is your top priority and $70 is in reach, that's a fair buy and we'll say so. What the extra $10 doesn't get you: a wired mode. The G325 has no 3.5mm connection — which means on Xbox, the $59.99 headset on this page works and the $69.99 Logitech doesn't.
That trade — our price and wired fallback against their battery and brand — is the real decision. Everything else is marketing.
How to choose, in 20 seconds
- Platform first. PS5/PC wireless → G19BT. Xbox → anything you buy needs a 3.5mm cable; check for one before the price tag.
- One device or many? Many → tri-mode. One → the $49.99 foldable is enough.
- Ignore the battery number on every box in this price class. Including ours, if we ever print one.
